Hi all i was cleaning out my QT tank tonight ready for some new fish & as lowering the water level i noticed what seemed to be small hairs stuck to the side of the glass but took no notice & carried on,but once i had refilled the tank i then noticed loads of little white worm like creatures swimming around near he surfice, has anybody got a clue of what they could be, they are only a few mm in size but haveing never seen them before im concernd as to what they are & are the harmfull also what can i do apart from draindown & give a full disinfection of the tank etc plus would i have to replace the sponge filter?Any info would be great & welcomed.

Hi Paul,
You've actually named them in your original post. "White worms", or more technically planarian worms. These are not harmful to fish, indeed you can cultivate them as a fish food! They feed on decomposing organic matter, most likely they are feeding on small particles of food which tend to collect on the glass at the water line.

Hi Lisa you would be right as i had had a couple of very finicky eaters in the QT tank & had feed them many differant types of food before they ate anything so you saying over feeding would be corect as food was going in little but often probably to often.
