My new Angels :)
Hello, I am new here was recommended by Akasha, thanks! I recently bought two angels and would like to know if they are male or female, they are still small, 50p body size roughly so it probably won't be too easy but here they are! these are the clearest images I have at present but can get some more if need be, also if anyone knows what strain they are too, I notice in certain light they have a blue sheen to them.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi there & welcome to the forum.
It's hard to sex angels from photos with any certainty and with youngsters like yours, pretty well impossible, even if you see them in the flesh.
As to variety, they're both smokeys, it's hard to tell for certain from the photos, but they look like they might be blue smokeys, if they are the colour should become more obvious as they mature.

Your be pleased to know you have a pair. The top photo being the maleand the bottom the female. You will notice the the top photo has a small hump or bend just below the fin.
If you look at my topic on this subject, [http://www.uk-angelfishforum.org.uk/t417-how-to-sex-your-angelfish] I have tried to explain there how to tell them apart. But it does take years of experiance.

glad you made it over here! Um ... you posted pictures of the same fish ... where's the little blushing koi?
and I sexed the little grey one right *whoop whoop* I'm learning!! Although I got the strain wrong, I said marbled
There's a lovely little blushing koi (looks to be pearlscale too) and I've said that looks female but I'll leave it to Phil to tell me if I just got lucky with the grey one

oop ... sorry
it was ariel I got you mixed up with. She was asking about a similar looking angel and I recommended this place to you both.
This really is the best place for anything angelfish related

Just wanted to say you were 100% right! I have a pair they spawned a few days ago and although the majority turned white I have a few wrigglers tonight, just need to find my camera and will update you with how they look now.

Here's mum and dad:
Sadly only two of their fry have made it thus far I don't hold out much hope for them but I will do all I can to keep them alive the majority succumbed to fungus and I had no anti fungus on hand having just moved and everything is packed away in boxes
I shall be more prepared for next time though now I know.

Re: My new Angels :)
Both parents are smokeys, so you should get 50% smokey, 25% silver (normal wild type) & 25% chocolate (like smokey, but a more extensive pattern).
however there are other genes which might be present which could complicate the picture. If both parents have a gold (or gold marble gene) then 25% of the offspring will be gold or gold marble. Other genes such as stripeless, albino, Philippine blue could be lurking to complicate things further!
