M/F Question ...
This is part of a pair, but since I'm never home when they spawned, I can't tell which is male or the female ... here is one of them ... I will try to get a good side shot of the other one ....
Thanks in advance ....

Re: M/F Question ...
That is not what my suspicions were .... They were 1=Male and 2=Female. The dark though, I'm having trouble seeing the the single line/arc thingy that Phil mention is his 'sexing angelfish' post. I can defnitely see the two lines on the silver, so male, and by deduction, the blackie is a female since this is a proven pair.
does phil still post and read the threads?

Have you got this the wrong way around? I think the others are saying the dark fish is the male #2. I tend to agree based on seeing the males bit's in the second photo.

Re: M/F Question ...
well, crap, now I'm confused ..... but if you guys are correct about blackie, then that's probably why I am having problems seeing the single line/arc .....
Looking the pictures again, would that be a single arc on silver??? Also, do you think the silver is carring a pb gene??

I'm still growing out my initial breeding stock so I have zero experience in spotting it. I believe it's virtually impossible to tell though.

Re: M/F Question ...
My vote is #1 male #2 female
and
if you look at the striations in the dorsal fin of fish # 1 then it MIGHT be carrying a blue gene. There is also a metalic sheen to the silver behind the gills of fish #1, but it could all be a trick of the light. pb/+ doesn't show much, if at all, because it is a recessive gene that usually only shows when the fish gets it from both parents and is pb/pb.
IF fish #1 is pb/+ then you will not be able to tell from this crossing.
You will get only 25% pb/+ and it certainly won't show in any of the offspring until they are mature and then no more than this fish is showing it.

I took a good look at the bit the other day ...and I have to say, it's not pointy at all, it's actually kind of flat at the end. This pair should be spawning soon, it's been a over a month since their last spawn.

So here is a picture of her junks .... with the blunt-ness of the end, I would assume female, yes/no???

Re: M/F Question ...
110% male, it may be 'blunt' at the end but its way too thin to be a female, there's no way you'd get eggs down that. The female should soon be dropping her tube, you'll see the difference then.... .

Yep. As and when I can get an Internet signal. I'll read all the posts when I can.
No1 is the male and No2 the black lady is female.
You will notice that in No1 there are two arcs that don't meet on the same circumference. Where as No2 even though there appears to be a number of bumps or arcs, but if you look closely you will notice that it is truly one arc from the tale to the nose. Hope that makes sense. This is one of the times where a good side on picture would truly be useful.
