Help with i.d of my angels plz :)
Hi new to Angels and this fourm so any and all help welcome.
All in all iv got 6 angels in my tank and my two favorites have paired up ( goin to try and add pic from my fone )
The brown one ( female )is to what iv been told a F1 altum ?? but from other pics iv seen i dont think it is.
The blue one ( male ) again to what am told is a blue hi fin ??
They have laid eggs 3 time already in the main tank so getting the sex of them was nice and easy but would really like to fine out what they are and if it would be worth setting a breeding tank up for them ??

Hi Laws66, welcome to the forum.
The male appears to be a blue zebra, the female a silver, it definitely isn't an altum. So called "Peruvian altums" are actually just P. scalare, but often very nice ones. The photo is too blurred to comment on how closely she resembles a Peruvian fish, but she has a nice golden crown.

Depends on various factors like water temperature, etc., but if one batch of eggs are unsuccessful, they usually lay again somewhere between 7-14 days.

Hi laws66,
Welcome to the forum. That's a couple of nice fish you have there. I'd say the male is a veil with some blue and silver in it from somewhere in it's parentage (but Rob is the expert and can correct me). The female is a silver. I have a breeding pair of wild scalare from Peru the male of which shows a similar red/orange colour on his back and forehead.
Good luck with breeding them, you should get some interesting combinations from them. Who knows what other genes they carry.
Trevor

thanks TrevorGreenfield out of all my angels them two are the ones i wanted to pair with each other.
sorry if this sound stupid but just want to be sure am understanding what they are lol
so the male is a blue veiltail angelfish or blue zebra veiltail angelfish ?
and the female is a silver zebra angelfish?
any info about genes from your self or rob / or others is brill want to learn asmuch as i can about them.
goin to get a smaller tank setup other the next week or two just for them and see what happens up 2 now they keep trying to breed but eat the eggs after about 12hrs.

Re: Help with i.d of my angels plz :)
Yes sorry for the confusion, the male is a blue zebra veil and the female is a silver (not zebra). However, what they look like visibly isn't the full story. In genetics there are three traits - dominant, recessive and partially dominant. We only see the dominant, or partially dominant ones but there will be recessive ones in there that are not showing. In the case of your male, zebra is a dominant trait and veil is partially dominant so the fish appears zebra and veil although it may have recessive traits hiding underneath.
Depending on what both fish are actually carrying you could get quite a wide variety of types in the offspring.
regards,
Trevor
