New Spawn - Black x Albino Gold Peralscale
Hi all,
I've had a young pair set-up in a spawning tank for the last couple with no signs of any spawning behavior or either of them showing any interest in one another. Just typical that whilst I was away over the weekend they spawn and on the filter too!. I got the black female from Lisa and the albino male through Ste Chester as a young fish which I have grown on myself. I have no idea what to expect out from the spawn other than them being albino carriers. Your thoughts are welcomed. Here are some pics:
Male:
Female:
The eggs:
Thanks,
Sam

I love the dorsal fin on that albino!
The albino looks to be albino gold pearlscale, hopefully Lisa can give you more information on the female, but my guess is that she's D/g which means you can expect 50% golds and 50% black offspring.

Thanks for the comment and thoughts on the outcome of this cross.
When I spoke with Lisa about the female she said "I recon the female has a pb gene, most probably D/g - +pb"
So if this is right I should get half black and half gold as you mentioned.

Re: New Spawn - Black x Albino Gold Peralscale
Little update:
Overnight they seem to have eaten just under half of the eggs but those that remain have entered the wriggler stage. I'm hoping that they will go free swimming over the weekend, as long as no more disappear.

They all seem to have made it to the free-swimming stage and are happily eating BBS. As expected the parents are very protective so I'm hopeful this is a sign they will be successful with their first spawn.
Interestingly you can already tell which fry will be dark and which light. I wasn't expecting such a noticeable difference this early in their development.

Breeding
Hi Sam
Nice to see you have grown them to breeding size, And all seems to be going well for you.
You should get some nice young from them two.
Put some pics on here in 8 to 10 weeks they will be nice to see.
Cheers Tony

Re: New Spawn - Black x Albino Gold Peralscale
Hi All,
A little update on this pair:
The have been spawning regularly for the past 6-8 weeks but each time they either ate the eggs or fry. I eventually got fed up with this cycle and decided that the next time they spawned I'd pull them from the tank after spawning and raise the eggs/fry myself. I obviously wasn't as good as leaving them with the parents however I have now got a nice group of fry growing on which is more than I'd have got if I left them with the parents.
Here are some pics of the fry after a few days of free swimming (just over a week since being laid).
It might not be clear from the pics but the lighter bodied fry have patches of black which makes be think the albino male was carrying the gold marble gene? Is this correct?
I'd love to hear your thoughts,
Sam

Good on you
Hi Sam
Glad you got some fry of them looks to me like you will get two or three different
colour,s from the one brood and some interesting genes, That pair are worth all the hard work
if they give nice colours as i suspect they will.
nice to see all your hard work and time you put into them, from growing them on to breeding
has paid off well done.
Cheers Tony

Re: New Spawn - Black x Albino Gold Peralscale
Hi Sam,
It's good you've got some fry at last, and yes, the fact that some of the gold fry appear to have black blotches would point to the presence of a gold marble gene.....
However looking at the photo I can see no sign of the albino having the gold marble gene, usually you can see the "ghost" marks of the black patch on an albino. Another possibility is that the albino is g/g - a/a and the black is D/Gm. The answer will come from the fry....
If all the fry are either black or gold marble then it's the black one that has the gold marble gene, (provided that any black offspring crossed to a gold only produces golds and blacks) . Whilst if you have a mixture of golds and gold marbles in the non black offspring, then it's the albino which has a gold marble gene.

3 weeks on Monday since going free swimming. Looks like they're all either black or gold marble. They're growing really well. Here are some pics.
