A few questions about breeding...
Hi all,
I have a few questions about angelfish breeding that i really cant seem to find answers anywhere.
1) Can angelfish that have ceom from RO water still be healthy and breed in normal conditiond tap water?
2) Will angels breed if they came from 6.0 PH into a 8.0 PH tank?
3) If i were to raise 20 angel fish from babys to adult in 8.0PH water will they pair off and breed?
Also what is normal for pairing off activaty? I have to kois and 1 Black angel (not what it is) one of the kois seem to be with the other koi all the time on other side of the tank to the black angel. and one of the kois pushs the black one away all the time if he gets to close. they were also lip locking lastinght... i woke up this morning and now the black one and a koi seem to be swimming next to eachother all the time leaving the other koi alone... i dont understand whats going on....
thanks in advcance!

Re: A few questions about breeding...
Pure RO water is harmful to most fish because it is too pure. The lack of minerals has two major effects, firstly it can cause the pH to be very unstable and fluctuate wildly. Secondly it can have a long term adverse effect on bone development.
RO water should always be remineralised before use, except when being used for the breeding of extreme acidophiles (Acid liking species) for example cardinal tetras.
Providing they are aclimatised slowly to the different water quality, most domesticly bred angels will live happily at any ph between about 5.5 pH and 8.0 pH. They can also be bred at any pH within this range, however in my experience successful breeding is easier at a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
Fish raised at 6.0 pH can still be bred at 8.0. But I've seen it suggested, and suspect it to be correct, that fish recently moved from one water quality to water of markedly different quality may take a month or so to adjust to the new water, and most of not all eggs laid during this adjustment period are infertile.

Yes, if given the time to adjust to the new water1) Can angelfish that have ceom from RO water still be healthy and breed in normal conditiond tap water?
Yes, but egg fretility rates are better at lower ph levels.2) Will angels breed if they came from 6.0 PH into a 8.0 PH tank?
Yes, as long as you water quality is good they will breed3) If i were to raise 20 angel fish from babys to adult in 8.0PH water will they pair off and breed?

This is not uncommon as a female will prefare a nice strong agressive male, seems the black has won the sparring and gained the female
