Ever since the lose of the first spawn to my Blue Leopard Pearlscale Male & Blue Silver Pearlscale Female the female has not stoped attacking the male to the extent that the female has taken large chunks out of his dorsal & cordaul fins & the poor begger couldn't move without being attacked, then today she laid again & once he had fertalized the eggs she really let loose on him & savaged him quite bad so i have had to remove him for his own good,it's as if she blames him for the lose of her first spawn. She has carried on fanning the eggs of which im pleased to see & just hope she will raise them without any problems as i wouldn't mind keeping this spawn well a few of them anyway as this batch looks a fair bit bigger than the last.

I had a black lace pair who beat the $%&* out of each other all the time. After one such episode I found, to my horror, she had ripped his bottom lip clean off! I thought they needed a break so separated them for a couple of months. As soon as they got back together they were at it again. Some pairs are just that way inclined. I did try him with a different female, but she was too passive, so he went back to his original female. Anyway, good luck with this spawn. I'm sure your girl will do fine as a single parent.

Thanks Rob, i do hope all will be ok with this lot as i have never had to let just one parent raise a batch on there own
although i know its not unherd of.

When i took a look this morning there was mum fanning away as if nothing was up & all seems ok,all the eggs are still there & looking good (so far) i dont want to disturb her if i can help it not after last time, but saying that she did let me have a little cleanup this morning & didnt batter an eye at me she just carried on as if i wasn't there so i have my fingers crossed.

Likewise. In fact I've just removed a male today and left the female with the eggs. It's not something I like to do, but I know this female is a good parent, whilst I've tried the male with several different females without success. With the current pairing they had one batch that disappeared about 2 days after going free swimming, and since then they've had several batches which haven't gone past the wriggler stage, so I want to find out if the male is eating them.

This morning i caught the female eating all the eggs so i will let her & the male try again but next time i will pull the female & leave the male to see how he does, but atleast i know it wasn't due to her being disturbed. When i bought this pair i was told that they are about 9 months old so it could just be that they are young & still getting the hang of things, i will not giveup on them as i'm sure they will get there in the end.

I know Paul. I never remove spawns, just let the parents get on with it. It's too much hassle to artificially raise a spawn, and it's more fun to see the parents do their thing.
