Parents raising fry but not eating food

Hello!
     
    My Angel Pair have their first successful hatching and first week of successful raising of their offspring. Neither of them are eating. I am worried that they may starve to death.  

My questions are....
                          Is this normal not to eat?  And if so when will they start to eat again?

I am editing this as things have happened!   

First of all I moved my Breeding pair to a 20 gallon for a rest and to medicated them for the mouth damage they caused each other. I did not partition them as they where not mouth pulling and I provide no place to lay eggs.

  Then to my surprise they actually laid eggs on the glass! lol

I have managed to keep my Breeding pair eating through the egg fanning, wiggler, and swimming stages!

I have been using 'Seachems GarlicGuard' to coat the food. And more importantly I have changed the food to Frozen Brine Shrimp and Frozen Blood Worm.

I think one of my mistakes was to feed them pellets. I think they resemble fry too much.

So hopefully they will not eat their young, and maybe they will raise them till the fry have their wings!

It's quite common & they won't starve, I think it's an adaptation that ensures they don't accidently eat their babies, not all pairs do it, but those that do usually start eating again a day or so after the babies go free swimming.

Okay! Well there is a problem with that, as the fry had been swimming for a week. The Parents hadn't been eating.

The day after I posted this question the fry where gone the nest morning   

I was so devastated. I don't know if the parents became overcome with hunger or maybe the Cory Dora/Bristle Nose Pleco's had something to do with their disappearance.

I do have some other question as to their health, though.

So my Angel Pair do the mouth gripping and pulling. His mouth is actually missing a piece. And Her mouth is a mess inside and out.

Is this normal? Do I medicate or salt them?

If I don't want them to breed, so they can have a break how do I go about this?

Sorry you lost the fry, it's a fine balance knowing quite when to separate parents from fry, usually they're Ok for 2 or even 3 weeks after the fry go free swimming. It seems unlikely that the bnose, or cories were responsible given that they hadn't eaten them up to that point, although in general I wouldn't recommend either in a breeding tank. I've had similar losses in the past and with hindsight suspect most were due to my being too heavy handed with the food. In many of these cases I can be confident it wasn't the predation as there weren't any fish other than the babies in the tank, it's also surprising how quickly the babies decompose, so despite losing many tens or even hundreds over night, there's nothing to see in the morning. This would be doubly likely with cories & bnose there to hoover up any bodies.

The parent fish do sound like they need a break, if you haven't got separate tanks to move them to, partition the tank either with a sheet of acrylic, a pane of window glass, or some sort of plastic mesh or partition. It surprising how quickly that sort of damage can heal even without treatment, but I'd probably use either myxazin or Esha2000 as a precaution. Personally I'm not a big fan of salt with angels, but it can be quite effective.

I feel better already! Okay I will separate them with some sort of divider and give them and me a break. When I attempt to breed them again they will have no tank mates.

It happens, even the best parents in my fish house eat a batch or to, its natures way if they feel threatened or spooked ain any way they eat them some times they eat them just to get at us (that's the way it feels sometimes ) the great news is though that you have a confirmed pair and to get this far is a real bonus as some people struggle to do this.

Let them have another go and remove them when they are free swimming you can then have the pleasure of growing them on

The breeding part hasn't been a problem ever since I added Peat Balls. My Pleco's, Cory, and Mollies have been busy. I get them from UK ebay.....

I am in Canada, but it only takes about a week to get to me.

I will be taking the majority of fry away to raise on my own and leave a few for my parent angels to hopefully enjoy raising.
