Can anyone tell if I can use an alternative salt to marine salt to hatch brine shrimp, & if so what?
As I have run out of my usual marine salt & need to get a batch of brine shrimp on the go for my
free swimming fry's 1st feed. I'm sure I have used cooking salt in the past in an emergency but may be wrong.
As the old grey matter isn't what it used to be & its been a long time since I've had to use anything else.
Any advice would be good as I don’t finish work until the shops have closed tonight & really need to get
the 1st feed ready.
Hopefully someone can advise as im sure this could be of help to others who may find themselves im my situation.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Hi Paul
You answered you own question;
All i ever use is asda's cooking salt, i can not remember the name of it but there is sumthing
in table salt that kills bbs but it is not in cooking salt.
So after work fined a 24hr a day asda Laughing .

As i thought Tony but it has been a long time since useing anything other than marine salt & didn't want to go wrong as i feel the first feed is an important one.But you have put my mind at rest & i will get the brineshrimp on the go tonight once i get home.
Its nice to know that we can all get that reassurance from people here & it has proved to me that no matter what you think you know it is always good to ask.

Many thanks

I think it was mentioned in Rob's brine shrimp hatching guide. Table salt contains Iodine which is toxic to fish and shrimps. As your hatching shrimps this would be bad.

I have also been using cooking salt and at under £1.50 for 3kg is a bargain.
