Lights On??
I know nothing about genetics, but do my best to understand the topics people add on here, as I seem to have too much time on my hands at the moment I do a lot of surfing and nearly always end up on Angelfish sites.
The topic I was reading this morning was talking about leaving the lights on for differing lengths of time when the fry are growing and changing their appearance??
While I'm still struggling to get my "Parents" to raise a few fry, I have been leaving my lights on 24/7, should they eventually manage to raise a few fish, am I changing their eventual colouration??
Has any one on here noticed this?

Re: Lights On??
Some varieties are more affected by light levels than others, although personally it's not something I've experimented with. One thing I've not seen is any information on the levels of lighting used in these experiments. I would expect that if growing fish under short, long or constant lighting regimes can influence their colouration and pattern, that the intensity of the lighting used would also have an effect.
Personally I use a single fluorescent tube above all my breeding & growing on tanks, and these are left on from about 8 am until 10 pm. I don't generally find it necessary to use 24 hour lighting for parents guarding eggs or young, but have, on occasions, found it useful to leave some lighting on at about the time the eggs are due to hatch and/or the wrigglers go free swimming, but only do this if the pair consistently have problems at this stage.

Re: Lights On??
The article was about Leopards specifically, so maybe I was reading too much into it? Or just getting myself confused, it was saying the length of time the light was on tuned them into leopards, but they would/could/should turn into smokies?
I think maybe I should just look at the pretty fish and like them for what I can see lol??

It can also have an effect on the development of the bands in normal silvers, and I'm sure it would have subtle effects on other varieties
