Koi + Manacapuru
I want to show you the result of this cross. This is the path to this point:
Gm/Gm S/S + wild (Manacapuru) = Gm/+ S/+ (50% Manacapuru) + ......
Gm/+ S/+ (50% Manacapuru) + wild (Manacapuru) = Gm/+ S/+ (75% Manacapuru) + ......
Gm/+ S/+ (75% Manacapuru) + wild (Manacapuru) = Gm/+ S/+ (87,5% Manacapuru) + .....

Nice Angels
They are rearly nice fish and look to still have a good size body to finnage size, Very interresting markings,
But i have to ask, what sort of colour are you trying to get to at the end of all your breeding. i.e
A new form of Koi if so it will be a realy strong fish.
al the best with your breeding Tony.

It's very interesting to see the result of adding true red back genes into domesticated varieties. I'm sure there'll be even more superb specimens in the future! Keep up the good work Raiko!

Re: Koi + Manacapuru
Good work Raiko! i'm with Toni - what direction are you going with this crossing?
Re: Koi + Manacapuru
Thanks for your comments!
When I started these crosses had no fixed plan for my work. The ultimate goal is to get a good body shape and coloring of my koi angelfish. I started to cross in different directions and to observe the results. The red color of my koi appear in the bottom half. (25% Manacapuru or F1 + Koi). Now I see that can get very good results not only in koi angelfish. In the last generation Silver Gold Marble Ghost (87,5% Manacapuru) appears very good yellow color in the upper half. In their generation must have 1/16 koi angelfish. It will be interesting to see them. I will continue with experiments.

Re: Koi + Manacapuru
This is one pair 25% Manacapuru (F1 + Koi) and in the last photo there are several of their young. I think it is possible to achieve very good results.

Re: Koi + Manacapuru
The red back genes from the manacapuru seem to be an addition to the expected red on a koi instead of just enhancing......maybe the 'red back' gene is a new gene to work with? It would be fascinating to cross these with the high orange coverage koi's they have in the USA....mmmmm!!!
