Hi all

New to the forum so Hello...

Different people have different views, but I find that keeping the tank heavily stocked (within reason) reduces aggression. I have a similar sized tank with well over 20 adult and sub-adult fish. But I have several other tanks, and periodically shuffle things around if they start looking too crowded. If you're going for altums, or indeed any of the wild types, give them a bit more space. If I only had the one tank, and wasn't planning on breeding them, I'd look at about 12 - 16 with a shoal of reasonable sized tetras (something like bleeding hearts or black phantoms).

You can mix whatever combination of different varieties you like; they're all the same species, in my tanks I have all manner of different varieties mixed together.
