Any advice is appreciated.
Does anybody have any advice on the sex and genetics of this angel?
Sorry about the picture quality, i took them on my 'phone.
All of the ( blurred ) pictures are of the same fish, except the last one which is of the intended mate.
The veil tail gene is obvious.
Is there a stripeless gene ? And how do i detect a dark gene ?
The fish is much darker than it appears in these pictures.
I haven't done anything to the pics other than resize them.
I am hoping to cross with this blue that i bought from Lisa.
Thankyou for your help.

Wow, he is a very handsom hunky boy!
As to genetics the main thing I see (other than veil) is Silver, but as the stripes don't look complete then possably a Ghost (single stripeless gene), and if you are realy lucky then fingers crossed for a single Blue gene (pb) but that is a guess due to the colour of the ventrals & green hue to parts of the body.

Re: Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks Lisa
I was hoping for a boy !
He has previously showed aggression to the blue male that you sold me the other week.
The blue fish he is with now is the other blue that you sold me, and she laid eggs a couple of weeks ago ( and then ate them! ) so i know she is female.
He is also the biggest angel that i own, even though he is very young, so i might have got a potential paring here.
I will have some fun later with a genetics calculator and see what might happen.
It's all speculation so far, the two fish haven't even shown any signs of becoming a pair yet, other than they are alone in the same tank. She is reluctant to feed since being moved over to the breeding tank, other than the occasional half-hearted peck at a few crumbs. He is eating like a pig as usual.
Thanks again.

Yep, definite male.
As to genetics, in some photos it looks to be a silver, whilst in others it looks to be a black lace. The bands look too complete for it to be a ghost, but not quite complete enough for me to be confident it isn't. hopefully they will produce some nice youngsters.

Thanks for your reply.
I do not have enough experience of angelfish to make these judgements myself.
I might get lucky, but he is very young so i am prepared for a long wait.

I bought him from Sweet Knowle Aquatics a few months ago when he was only the size of a 10p coin. He grew really well!
All of the angels in the tank were described as Zebra, i just picked the 4 with the longest fins.
When i spoke to the fishkeeper at Sweet Knowle he said that they had come from Singapore and the stock they usually got from there would have one wild parent.
Of the 4 that i bought this one was the largest, the others were only the size of a 5p coin, but they have all nearly caught up now although this fish still stands out from the others, bigger and with better shaped fins and markings.
Two of the fish have the extra zebra stripes with all of the stripes being complete.
This one and one more do not have the extra stripes and the stripes they have are incomplete.
Judging from the behaviour i think i have three male and one female. I don't want to cross any of these four because i would end up with , at least some, super veils so i am trying to cross this one with a lovely blue that i bought from Lisa at the BCA auction.
Putting some of the genetic guesswork into a calculator is providing some interesting possible outcomes.
Thanks for your interest.
