moving wrigglers

After giving up with two pairs who ate their wrigglers/eggs at various stages, I had a change round of some tanks, and since then two pairs have spawned in a tank with 5 other angels, they have made a much better effort that the ones in dedicated tanks.

One pair spawned on the filter, which was fine when eggs, but once they went to the wriggler stage, they started to get sucked in, so I thought I'd try and save a few, and removed them to a new tank (cycled etc), I spent ages introducing the new water, but after 24 hours they were all dead.

This is the second time I've tried this with the same result, what am I doing wrong? or is it nigh on impossible to remove wrigglers??

It's possible, but I don't have much experience of doing so. My last experience was with some albino fry. I sucked them off the flowerpot where the parents had them using a meat baster and transferred them to a small plastic container of tank water. I floated this on their new tank for about 30 minutes before releasing them into a net breeding trap, positioned so that the outflow from the air driven filter gently circulated into the container. This method seemed to work well. On other sites, breeders who more regularly pull eggs or wrigglers always emphasise the need for the receiving container to be scrupulously clean, and tend to use fresh RO water, or other aged but not mature water.
I have a suspicion that some snails may predate on wrigglers, and that in a more mature tank there's a greater risk of the babies picking up infections from bacteria or other pathogens lurking on the base, that's why I used the breeding net.

I have a  couple of pairs that regularly eat their spawn so have been taking broods and hatching in small tanks, as Rob said this needs to be very clean and have a good filtration on it but not one that blows the fry all around the tank. This method is not for the faint hearted and is very time consuming

What are you feeding ???

I hadn't got as far as feeding, they all died within 48 hours of moving them, I've been successful with breeding with the help of parents, I currently have two tanks of blues growing on, my problem was moving the wrigglers, I only have one spare tank and my husband has ordered some Rainbow fish eggs, so the Angels are going to have to do it themselves for the next couple of tries, but I'll try again once the Rainbows have moved on. Unless of course they can share a tank lol
