Platinum x Paraiba sunset

After waiting a few weeks for the fish to pair up I had the first spawn which didn't last past 2 days wrigglers as the parents ate the lot over night. Normal behaviour by a young pair. Not to be beaten I kept feeding them blood worm and 3 weeks later another spawn, this time I ket a close eye on the behaviour of the fish whilst trying not to spook them. Day 1 of free swimming I disturbed them whilst feeding and watched the female picking off the few fry, so decided to remove her. Since then the male has been an excellent parent and now have a healthy batch of fry growing on.

Good news,
It's worth pointing out that parent fish regard us as potential predators, when there's a predator about they will grab over adventurous & errant fry in their mouths, before spitting them back into the shoal, but they don't like to do this when the predator is watching. If the predator watches too closely for too long, then I think sometimes they end up swallowing the fry either in frustration or quite possibly by accident. So if you suspect a parent fish of eating the young whilst you're watching, walk slowly away, and just watch out of the corner of your eye, you may well be surprised to see the parent spit them out!
