A couple of weeks ago I introduced a new female to my favourite Ken kennedy paraiba koi. All was well for a few days; she was almost ready for breeding when I noticed the male starting to list and do full somersaults. A day or so later he was laying on his side on the bottom of the tank, he would try to eat but not very well (the female layed but I'm pretty sure he didn't fertilise the eggs). He was starting to get an infection on the eye touching the floor so I decided to move him into a 2 gallon tank where i treated him with octozin an a small amount of salt. A day or 2 later and he was off the bottom and eating, I've now moved him into a larger tank with some juveniles until his eye has fully healed. I'm really pleased he's better, I'm getting some really nice fry off him and it'd be a shame not to be able to use him some more!

Sounds like he's making a good recovery, good call on the octozin.

Glad he is better now, any idea what had caused the problem yet?

No not really Lisa, he was getting ready to spawn so should have been in tip top condition. I'm assuming some kind of internal bacterial infection; I like Octozin because its not harsh on fish but can work wonders on hard to identify problems such as this. I'm just hoping he's up for breeding in week or so.
