I have at the moment 3 pairs in 3 tanks (2 not doing much but that's another story), and two tanks for fry, only one of these has any lights (with adults in), but I hadn't seen this as too much of a problem? but maybe it is??

Latest batch from a Blue pair, I stole some wrigglers as they have been really bad at eating them after free swimming, I put them in a tank which has the most daylight (its almost on a windowsill), they've looked ok but have kept to the bottom 4" in one corner. Last night I wanted to give them a last feed of bbs, so I moved my desk light closer to the tank, and all of a sudden they were everywhere looking super, am I harming their growth/development by not giving them extra light??

This morning they are back in the corner again, the ones left with Mum and Dad are swimming about happily and their tank is much darker, I'm confused! Rolling Eyes

Amount and duration of lighting can have an influence on the proper, or otherwise, development of the banding in silver angels, it can also influence the pattern development of other varieties eg leopard.
The amount of lighting shouldn't affect the healthy development of youngsters, except that, to raise healthy youngsters it's important to provide them with an environment in which they feel secure. Insecure fish will be stressed, which will slow their growth, but are also inclined to huddle nervously in a corner. Babies which hug the bottom of the aquarium, especially in bare bottomed tanks, are, in my experience, more prone to bacterial issues and fin damage.
Personally I like to provide moderate lighting and a varied environment with plants and other cover such as rocks, flowerpots and bogwood. The exception to this seems to be albinos where I've had best results with raising them for the first few weeks in a small (10-20 litre) aquarium with just ambient light.

Thanks Rob,

As expected Mum and Dad ate the ones they had left, so I'm pleased I pinched the ones I did, I have to say this is the best spawn I've had for a while, and they're now shoaling, fingers crossed I can keep them going.

I've bought them a plant today, we'll see what happens.
