hi, are there good colours that i can buy,that would be good breeding project to go with platinums.

a lot really hinges on what varieties of angel you like and what you have available to you.

Platinums are platinum because of two recessive genes, namely gold and Philippine blue. There may also be other hidden genes such as stripeless, and smokey.

You could for instance cross a platinum with a marble, if you're lucky and the marble is heterozygous (has just one copy of the gene) for marble paired with a wild type gene, you'd get a mixture of marbles and silvers. Pairing one of each of these together would give a mix of varieties including gold, platinum, marble, blue marble, silver (wildtype), blue and quite possibly others if either of the original fish were carrying any hidden genes.

Thank you for reply, i have another question , I understand genetics a bit ,but (one dose ) have not see this in reptile and mammal genetics talk in the past.Does it mean heterozygous or mean incomplete dominate and two dose is the super form .

Yes some people use the term "one dose of" in place of "heterozygous for", they could be talking about a dominant, recessive, or incomplete dominant gene.

Conversely, "super form" is a term which isn't generally used in angelfish genetics

Where would you suggest buying stock from, online ,local aquarium shop , or is it the best idea to do the miles to collect for private breeder.

A lot depends on what you're looking for, and what's available in your area.
My hobby is breeding angels, my day job is running my own aquatic store, and yes, we are now able to send fish by courier.
Despite this, my advice would be to support your local retailer if you have a decent one to support. After all, if you're planning on breeding quality angelfish, finding a retailer who's interested in selling quality fish and building a good relationship with them makes sense.
We're happy to buy fish from customers, and if they're decent quality we're even happy to pay a little more than we would for similar quality from a wholesaler. But note the key word in that last sentence, "customers". There are some people who come in and moan about our prices, tell us that they can buy cheaper on line, or that they can get it cheaper from one of our competitors. When these people turn up trying to sell their fish, I always take great pleasure in telling them that I can buy better quality fish cheaper from my suppliers!
Of course if you don't have a good local store, or they can't get the particular fish you want, then you've no choice but to look further afield.
As with retailers, there are good breeders and there are poor breeders. A good breeder is more likely to be able to tell you about the parents & genetics of the fish you're looking to buy.
Breeder or retailer, if possible I'd recommend putting in the miles to choose the fish in the flesh, seeing the environment the fish are being kept in, and choosing the fish you want from amongst their siblings is well worth the time, effort and fuel cost.
If you have to resort to mail order, try to get photos of the actual fish you're buying, not just a photo the seller has found on google. But remember, even the best photo doesn't always give a totally accurate impression of the fish, and it can be very, very, hard to take good fish photos.

agreeing with Rob. I wasn't sure what type of angel I wanted but I like to have 'unusual fish'. My tank contains some fish that are difficult to come by - my laetacara curvicep dwarf cichlid is the classic example. I've seen them just once in my area and that was the time I bought my pair.
It was the same with my angels. I could have gone to any fish store and bought a Koi or a marbled - they're ten a penny around these parts but I wanted something different. I got lucky and found my Smokey Blushing at a store over 10 miles away and I snapped them up there and then. Now that store are hoping my pair breed so they can take some of the young one's from me as they've not been able to get them again.
I would never buy fish online as I want to see what I'm buying, but that's just me. I'm happy to drive to a store 20 - 30 miles away if I hear it's stocking something I can't get anywhere else
