Confused.com!!
I was just going to bed the other night and I was just saying goodnight to my fish in the bathroom, when I realised all was not well!
My new pair of blues (Mrs Grumpys ex and the new female) were not looking at all good!
The female seemed to be resting at an angle in amongst the plants, my first thought omg I'm going to lose her??? The male was nose down swimming backwards at the bottom of the tank, bearing in mind it was nearly 11 and I get up at 4.15, I was tired and confused, but I realised I couldn't leave them. I tested the water and it seemed fine, although I didn't have any ro water to mix in (I usually do 2/3 tap and 1/3 ro), I thought fresh water must be better even if it is a bit on the hard side??
So I set about doing a partial water change, after I was finished, the female came out and joined the male, nothing more to be done I thought, so I turned off their light and went to bed, BUT I did think the female which I swore had red eyes didn't any longer.......... all very odd. There are a couple of other fish in the tank which appeared fine.
Next morning before work, I peeped in and they were in their usual resting position, Came home from work and they were swimming about as normal............ female has red eyes!!
I realise I could have imagined the lack of red eyes, I hadn't been drinking either! But the pair of them really didn't look well at all. I didn't test the Ph the night before I confess, but did test it the following day and it was fine, I have had a Ph crash before in another tank, could it be that?? Or any other suggestion.
I am pleased to report 3 days later all is looking well again

Re: Confused.com!!
I suspect you just disturbed them when they were sleeping. Fish do "pale down" at night, and the odd orientation might have been them trying to orientate to the bathroom light.
