Reverse Osmosis System
Hi all, my first post is, how many of you use RO, I live in a predominantly soft water area, I really don't want to go down that path if possible, I would like to keep P. Leopoldi or altums any help would be great..........

your not suppose to assume........But
Your not suppose to assume, but the 15 people who have read my post, I would assume they don't use RO, as none have answered me, I hope I am right as I don't want to use it either.......lol

Altums are much more demanding in terms of water quality than Leopoldi are, whilst wild caught in general can be more finicky than captive bred fish. It depends how soft is soft, but in general if your tap water is soft I wouldn't expect to need to use RO, but for Altums you might want to consider one.

Thanks for your answer Pterophyllum, I need to know so much before I buy my bigger tank on angels, I have read a lot but I need first hand knowledge from people on here.....Pterophyllum wrote:Altums are much more demanding in terms of water quality than Leopoldi are, whilst wild caught in general can be more finicky than captive bred fish. Re: Reverse Osmosis System
I have dreadfully hard water here in Kent, I have angels in community tanks with treated tap water and Angels only tanks in tap water plus RO, I can't say I notice the difference, but I'm sure they prefer the slightly softer water. I have managed to breed them in both types of water, but again, I'm sure there's better success rates with the softer water.

Re: Reverse Osmosis System
I have just bought a little portable unit from Collins Water Products. The angels have always been fine in my water which is GH13 KH 6 pH7.6, but they tended to spawn and eat the eggs. I wasnt serious about breeding then. I use a HMA unit for all my tanks. I bought this when I kept discus. I am using 50% RO at the moment with the breeding project I have, I thought I might get a little unit as its no fun going to fetch those 25 gallon cans and heaving them into the car. I dont plan to plumb the unit in, just run it from my shower, the same as I do with my HMA unit. I swore I would never buy an RO because of the waste, but I changed my mind.

Re: Reverse Osmosis System
It would be easier, I was going to have a unit plumbed in until some one said how expensive it is to produce it........

I don't know, he said when they got the water bill it was sky high, I don't know much about it P; if it's portable it may be ok, check with your water company......peaches wrote:Waste water is a problem. Is that what you meant?

Depends how you pay for your water. If youre on a meter it will no doubt make a big difference.
