Red back Altums???
Hi all,
looking for some help I have seen for sale some Red back Altums , now they are youngsters about 1.5" in size they have the Altum/Peruvian shape but no red markings as yet, I believe that this will show as they mature. Now I don't believe that there are any Red Back Altums so they could be Altum youngsters or they could be Manacapuru red backs crossed with Peruvian scalars. They are £25 each which isn't too bad a price

Re: Red back Altums???
I've never heard of red backed altums either. Manacapuru is located close to the one end of the Rio Negro, some have suggested that the Manacapuru Angel is an intermediate form or hybrid between Rio Negro Altums, and scalares, so that might explain the name. Certainly manacapuru's develop their red backs as they mature so a lack of red at that size wouldn't be unusual. Red backs crossed with peruvian scalares would be interesting, Raiko has carried our such a cross & came up with the name "Nanacapuru!" for them.... http://www.uk-angelfishforum.org.uk/t259-nanacapuru-angelfish#2914
It would be interesting to find out from the supplier where they came from, wild caught, Eastern European, Germany, Israel, etc.
