Hi Guys,

First post as I need some help if possible.
I've got 3 gold pearl scale angelfish which I've had from young (about 2-3cm?) They all get along great (for now at least) and have been healthy in the past with no problems. They've grown quite fast and are now about 6cm maybe 7cm.

My Tank is a 4 foot 260 litre - fully cycled, heavily planted and water parameters currently are

pH: stable at 6.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0-5ppm (plants seem to keep these low)

I have noticed some white clumps of fluff at the base of the fins on either side of one of them. I have treated with pimafix/melafix and when that made no difference, with esha2000 which has also made no difference. I have also noticed what looks like the beginning of this fungus/fluff in the same place on a second angel and I'm getting quite concerned.

Other stock in tank includes, rams, cardinal tetras, pleco, columbian tetras and khuli loach. One of my rams recently died from hole in the head, and was treated in quarantine. I found my kribensis dead a week ago with this kind of fungus behind one of his fins. I really don't want my angels to die!

Filter is a All Pond Solutions 200EF + UV

I've attached some photos of the fish and his fins. They were the best I could get, apologies if they're not clear enough

Hi Emzizozo,
and welcome to the forum.
I suspect that the fungus is simply a secondary symptom of some other type of infection. Since you lost a ram to h-i-t-h, and melafix & esha have not had an impact, i'd be inclined to try a course of octozin, combined with daily gravel cleans. If that doesn't help, then the next thing I'd try would be a wormer.

Hi Pterophyllum,

Thanks so much for your response!

Where would I be able to get some Octozin? Sorru if that's a silly question!

Been keeping tropicals for a while but these are my first angels so want to get it sorted asap.

Thanks Smile

One other thing I should mention, the affected angelfish also flicks his fins rapidly every now and then, (the very long flowy fins - I'm not sure on the correct names sorry!). Is this significant?

As long as he's not doing it constantly that's fairly normal behaviour. Depending on the type of flick it can be a threat display, or simply the fish equivalent of scratching or an involuntary twitch!
