Egg powder Empty Egg Powder

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Fri 05 Apr 2013, 15:46

Hi jimmy
I have got Egg powder from a health shop like ( holland & barrett ) but pricey.
But you can hard boil an egg and then keep putting it on the micro wave untill it is
very hard and i ground it with my belt sander into very fine powder.
but it can mess your water up if you put to much in, I think decap brine shrimp
is a lot better if it is for Angels / Discus, But it is good for small fry.
Cheers Tony

Old thread but, during a baby brine shrimp shortage, I boiled a chicken egg for 10 minutes, then using only the yellow middle of the egg... mixed it with about 50ml of regular cold tap water using the back of a spoon in a small rectangular food safe plastic container (which was kept in the fridge between feeds and lasted almost 7 days).

Tip: Agitate the mixture slightly before adding to the fry tank. Only add about half a tea spoon or (2.5ml) per feed. If lumps jump onto your tea spoon, try again (the lumps will just sink to the bottom and go furry like dead eggs... 'cos it is dead egg). I kept up with water changes.

If you're using a sponge filter driven by an air stone, you'll notice that the air bubbles will go quite big when you add the egg mixture, but your bubbles will return to their normal 'fine' size when the egg is eaten / sunk / trapped by the filter media.

It got me out of a tricky situation when my baby brine shrimp failed Very Happy
