Devastated! Empty Devastated!

Post  bridgegirl99 Sat 16 Mar 2013, 13:07

I think I'm about to lose all my angels, well the rest of them anyway, seven or eight weeks ago I introduced what appeared to be 4 healthy juveniles, one died after a couple of weeks, then a couple of others followed suit, I had a break of 3 weeks when everything looked OK and everyone happy again, but this week, my original adults all appear to be suffering bacterial infections.

Looking on the net the symptoms of Angel virus seem to be whats happening to me, I have 3 fish (one of the suspect juveniles) that look absolutely fine so I've got my fingers crossed maybe they're immune??

I have an internal and external filter running, also an air stone

I hate seeing these poor fish suffer, and I guess its all my fault!!

So my question is, assuming they all die, how long is this thing in my tank for? if at all? When can I try introducing angels again??

I have been treating with sterazin (a few weeks ago) and Melafix this week.

My water params are Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 30 PH 7.6, the neons and tetra in the tank are fine, miniature plecs are breeding, so its only my Angels suffering.

I feel so helpless and soooo depressed right now

Devastated! Empty bacterial infections

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Sat 16 Mar 2013, 14:19

Hi bridgegirl99
Sorry to here you have problems.
I am guessing you got some Angels from a shop that sells inported Angels, And they are in the
main all full of every bacteria infection going. ( I personaly will not have one give me ).
Now you can treat with Amoxycillin 500mg 1 per every 10 gallons of water and do a 25% water change
each day so 100 gall is 10 tablets per day. and it is a 10 day course, And it will kill your filters as well.
And even with that you can get a side effect of fungus which you will need to treat as soon as it shows
At the same time, They can be saved if they are not to swollen in the belly. I only now all this after i had
The same problem some years ago and was lucky enough to have a biologist friend luke at one under the
microscope for me. If you need any more best to ring me on my home number 01745 336262.
All the best Tony

Devastated! Empty Update

Post  bridgegirl99 Fri 22 Mar 2013, 08:46

I know I'm not out of the woods yet, a few more weeks, possibly months will show, BUT thanks to some great support and help from Tony and my LFS (Not where the dodgy fish came from to start with, and not that they knew anything about this problem, but were there with helpful suggestions), I think I have rounded the corner!

This morning I can report all survivors are now swimming about the tank and eating, my biggest fish who had changed colour is back to her shiny white, her fins are all proud again, such a relief, disposing of an odd guppy or platty doesn't hurt, but the thought of a fish the size of your palm is stomach churning!

A huge lesson learnt though! Be careful where the juveniles come from and quarantine first!! In fact stick to UK breeders like the smashing ones on this forum and you can't go wrong!!! Very Happy
