Post  Flossie3004 Sun 17 Mar 2013, 09:40

Hi Tony

I am absolutely over the moon with the fish....thanks again for you kindness and generosity.
All the babies and the Platinum are eating fine....in fact the babies were eating the first day! The blue boy has had a couple of graduals but the gold marble has not eaten anything yet. I will feel better when their appetite returns. The blue one must be feeling fairly okay as he is swimming all over the tank and the gold marble is now beginning to venturing out and about (but not much). I guess they still need a bit more time. Do you find that big fish take more time to settle in?

I have a few questions...I knew I would forget what you said!
Are all the babies out of the same batch?
What do you feed your fish on?
What brand of wormer do you use?

Cheers

Sandra

Settled in Empty Big Fish

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Sun 17 Mar 2013, 10:41

Hi Sandra
All the babies in that tank are from 12 different pairs i mix them all together so the shops get
A big colour mix, The two main sinking granules i use are ZM foods in winchester hamshire Rowhan the ( boss )
Of ZM foods has done a lot of research into tropical foods and you said it your self my fish are big and fat,
The second main food is from liverpool ( finest foods ) It is a tetra prima like food and just as good.
Then they get tetra pro, And my own beefheart i get from the slaughter house 1 minute down the road.
But the main feed for all my breeding fish are the white worm they give me the big broods being high in protein and are a very cheap food when you get enough try's going.
And the two wormers i use are, The first one is ( Fluke-Solve ) from Chris at plymouth Discus Then i use
The waterLife ( sterazin ) about two weeks after.
And nearly forgot Big adult fish never travel as well as young fish do, and can sulk for a few days but they will be fine. Hope they give you some nice young fish soon. And it was a very nice day meeting you and showing of my fishhouse.
All the best Tony

Post  Flossie3004 Mon 18 Mar 2013, 17:27

Thanks for that Tony....I will order some granuals from ZM soon. I think I am going to try out some white worm...I looked it up on youtube and it looks easy enough and it would be good to give the fish some live food. If I ever have enough fish I will look at making my own beefheart mix. In the meantime do you think if I bought some frozen beefheart it would encourage the two big boys to eat?

all the best

Tried the beefheart...they sucked some up and spat it out.

Have been looking on ebay and they have microworms and white worms. I know they are both white but is there any difference?

thanks

Settled in Empty Worms

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Tue 19 Mar 2013, 14:12

Hi Sandra
What you want is the white worms, They are the same size as blood worm the big difference
is white worms have high protein and bood worm have next to no goodness in them but as a
treat food bood worm is like giving a child an ice cream Laughing .
The microworms are just what it say's good for very very small fry like Rams and such like
so stay away from microworms and get some white worm going best food you can give
In my opinion.
Sorry but i am feeding 20 pairs of Angels & 4 pairs of Discus at the moment and do not have any spare
white worm.
Cheers Tony

There are platinums, platinum light marbles, marbles, one silvery black one (no stripes) and some striped ones though they might be marbles as well Very Happy The platinums and the platinum light marbles (don't know if that is the correct term) are already in my main tank and hanging around with the big boys. I can't stop watching them Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I am hoping the whiteworm culture arrives tomorrow. I have also ordered some crisps as well so they should be well catered for.

Settled in Empty Tell him off

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Sat 23 Mar 2013, 18:46

Hi Sandra
As with most very big Angels they do not travel well, If you can put him in a little
tank on his own turn the heat up to 80f or 82f with a ph of 7.4 lot of air and see if that
starts him eating. Probably having a bit of a tantrum after beening taken from
His girls, And he is a male Laughing When all are happy put some pics on Please.

Hi Tony

Do you know of anyone who sells safe live food....I have heard so many stories about live food carrying diseases that is has put me off buying any. The blue boy is not eating after all. The day he consumed a lot was a one off. However, I have just put some tetras in the tank and he was very interested. I quickly took the tetras back out. So, the boy wants live food....it there a company or someone you can recommend please.

Settled in Empty Live Food

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Sun 07 Apr 2013, 06:08

Hi Sandra
The big boy was one of my breeders so he will be used to a lot of live
white worm as i feed all the breeding stock white worm and it is a save
clean food full of every thing to give big broods, But as you have said
most all other live food can and do,s carry bad bugs so i will not take
the chance. So if you can get 1 or 2 trys of white worm on the go the
fish will love you.
oh and thankyou for the pics & thankyou card you sent me very nice to
see them in there new homes, And looking so good.
Cheers Tony

Hi Tony

Blue Boy
I have a white worm culture on the go but it's taking ages and I worry he won't last until I have enough worms to feed him with. I know Worms Direct sell big batches but they are out of stock for the next two weeks :-(. He did eat two pieces of blood worm yesterday and I will offer him some more today. I keep having a word with him...lets hope it works!

Glad you got the picture....they do look gorgeous in my big tank. Even my husband is now keen Very Happy and we are getting so much pleasure out of them. The little ones I thought were patinum and platinum marble have started to go gold....do they carry the gold gene or have they been coloured by Tetra Prima Granules.....although they get a variety of food the TPG are the main diet. By the way they are growing fast, somedays they eat so much they look like balloons.

Settled in Empty Re white worm

Post  TONY,S ANGELS Sun 07 Apr 2013, 11:26

Hi Sandra
I am short of white worm myself or i would send some to you got 24 pairs eating it like pigs.
As to the little ones if you could put some pics on here i can tell you what is in them.
If i have the right ones = titainium blue / gold marble / blue platinum / F3 or F4 wild silver and if it
is a long finn there will be gold albino as well.
Cheers Tony
