Hello every one.

I am new to this forum i joined as i am in the prosses of setting up a fish house and i am going to start breeding Angels.
I have never bred angels before but i did used to keep them years ago.
I now have a 1000L malawi tank.
My new shed is going to be 14x10 so i should be able to have a very nice set up with around 40 tanks in all shapes and sizes.
I would like some advice on what set up i should be looking for to optomise my breeding and so i get it right.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section and i would be happy if you moved it to the right one.

BUT ONCE AGAIN HELLO EVERY ONE AND IM LOOKING FOWARD TO LEARING A LOT MORE ABOUT THE ANGLES.

Ben.

Hi Ben,
Welcome to the forum. If you're going to devote a whole 14' x 10' shed to angels, then you're going to have a fabulous set up....

Really you need 3 types of tanks, small ones for the parent fish to spawn in, medium ones for growing the babies on in, and large ones to keep those adult fish that you're not currently breeding from.
Personally I have 5, 2' x 1' 15" tanks as breeding tanks. 4, 40 gallon grow on tanks and 2 display tanks for keeping the adults in (a 100 gallon and a 60 gallon).

If I was setting up again, more to the point if the misses would let me, there are a few things I'd change....

1. I'd use larger tanks as breeding tanks (probably of the order of 18" or 20" cubes)
2. For the same number of breeding tanks I'd increase the grow on space to about 10, 40 to 50 gallon tanks.
3. I'd have a couple of 60 - 70 gallon tanks for growing on potential breeders, and probably a couple more large tanks for keeping adults in!
4. I'd probably want more breeding tanks, but for every breeding tank, I'd add a couple of 40 -50 gallon grow out tanks.

Hello thanks for that.

Im hoping about 1/3 will be for angels so i will probally have 3 breeding tanks and for each of them breeding tanks i will have 2 other tanks.

Breeding tank will be 18x18x18 2nd tank will be 2x2x18 and the 3rd will be 4ftx2ftx18 dose that sound good for that area?

I will also be trying to breed malawis in one area and i will be doing guppys again to keep my LFS in fish.

I am seting this up as a project over the next few months so i want to do it right.
I would love to see other peoples fish houses so if you have any links i can look at or you know any one local to me i would love to see how they do it and pick there brains.

Sounds reasonable, but if you plan on breeding over several generations, you'll need somewhere to grow on the sub-adults. The problem I find is that for each pair I breed I want to keep about 20 youngsters, at least until they're large enough to sex, and until I've bred from a couple of them.

Yes i may rethink how i use the tanks as untill i get going i wont really be sure of what i wil get into more i may decide i want to do more with angels so i may dedicate more tanks to them at least with the guppys i will be able to keep them in the smaller tanks and i will be able to use the other tanks.

Im hoping to have 2 8ft tanks aswell so i will be able to split them up if needs be or use them as my holding tanks for growing on my juvis.

Its all just a BIG idea at the moment so untill i get the shed i wound set in stone how things will be set out.

I have never bred angels before so i will be more then greatfull if you could give me any hints and tips along the way Very Happy

Hi Ben, wishing you a big warm welcome to the forum Very Happy
And you are at the start of a very exciting project Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy . There is soooo much to consider when starting up a fish house, and not just what type of fish to breed, have you decided on what type of filtration you are going to use? What is you water like? are you going to use water from the tap or through an RO or Hma etc
Looking forward to seeing & hearing how the project progresses Very Happy Very Happy
