KOI ANGELS ON EBAY
Occasionally I check out the angelfish for sale on EBay. Does anyone else here do that? Something I keep noticing is that gold marbles are being advertised as koi. There's one listing that says koi angels ( gold marbles)! This really gets my goat. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm seriously thinking about emailing each of the culprits and asking them to correct their listing.

LOL, yes I look to
I gave up being surprized as the names given & leave people to it. I realy need to get on with Robs Phenotype Library and then there will be images to veiw
On the plus side there are sometimes some specials on ebay that are incorrectly described and you end up with little gems

Re: KOI ANGELS ON EBAY
It gets my goat that much that i reported someone last week for supposedly selling a breeding pair of Altums and they only went for 26 quid!
As anybody who knows anything about Angels will know, there's only ever been a handful of people who have ever bred Altums and you would need a bank loan to buy a breeding pair of them!
The ones on ebay were just common silver Scalare, i couldn't believe that the idiot who was selling them wouldn't change his description when i emailed him to tell him, so i reported him.
Anyway i'll get off my soap box now and stop complaining!

Must say Chili I agree with you on the Altum point! Willingly selling non Altums as Altums is basicaly fraud as far as I am concerned, thats as long as it is not a genuin mistake.

Re: KOI ANGELS ON EBAY
I can understand how someone who knows little or nothing about angels could do a little bit of research and come to the conclusion that their fish were altums, but agree that having been alerted to their error, they should have corrected their listing.
When it comes to varieties like "koi", it's worth bearing a couple of things in mind.
Firstly, there is no legal definition of what constitutes a particular variety, there is not even a universally recognised governing body responsible defining varieties, applying names and setting standards. If I wish I could call a koi a marmalade angel or a calico angel. If I wanted I could even call them Sky blue pink angels and no-one can stop me.
Secondly, as a retailer, and an angelfish enthusiast, I know the difference between a koi and a gold marble and I would never sell one as the other. On the other hand, when it comes to guppies, nice though they are, I'm not an enthusiast. I don't know about most of the guppy genes, and I don't know about some of the subtleties of guppy naming. I'm sure a guppy specialist would cringe at some of the names we sell our guppies as. That's not because we wish to mislead, or pass something off as something it isn't, it's because there's only so many hours in a day, and I can't possibly know it all! visit another retailer who's passion is guppies, and you'll probably find he feels the same about koi angels and gold marbles, but his guppies will be labelled perfectly!

Re: KOI ANGELS ON EBAY
I have to agree with you there, there are so many domestic Angels nowdays that i haven't got a clue what they are apart from the obvious 'marbled', 'koi' 'gold'.
When it comes to the 'smokey's', blue's etc, it all goes completely over my head and seems so complicated, that's why i like my wilds, it's just basically Leopoldi, Altum and Scalare (ok, there are a few variations of Scalare but it's still not that difficult!)

Never saw this ad, and don't know the seller at all.
But in general, I find that people on ebay like to "spice up" the desciptions on Ebay to make the item more saleable.

Boy, this has turned out to be a hoot. Amazing how we've gone from gripes about EBay to selling individually crystalised dihydrogen monoxide to Inuits
