Sorry to hear that Paul.
Some fish do seem more skittish than others when guarding eggs/young. I've had some turn on the eggs, I suspect, simply because they were nervous about me being in the room. Some will try to bite your hand off if you dare to put it in their tank, and yet others retreat to the back of the tank with an air of innocence, "Eggs? Me? No, you must be thinking of the couple in the tank next door!"
In general I try not to do any water changes in tanks where the parents have eggs or wrigglers. Once they're free swimming I judge from the behaviour of the parents, If they're prepared to try and bite me, then it's probably safe to do a small water change!

Hi Rob,well i now know not to interfear with this pair & i think i will also try not to do water changes & just minimal maintenance from now on.
