A First for Me
My blue silver x smokey pinoy paraiba currently have 11 x 17 day old fry. Mum's tube has dropped and a new spawn is imminent. Looks like they will be caring for two spawns at the same time. I've never had this happen before, but I do know it happens all the time. I'm very excited.

Watch out, here is a chance they will decide which spawn to raise and eat the other

Thanks Lisa, that's very reassuring......not. My grow out tank is being used to quarantine your babies, so ill just have too leave nature take its course.

Re: A First for Me
I've found that if the first spawn is big enough to eat the new eggs or fry, they will. If they swallow the eggs whole they may expand in the stomach and kill the fry, very upsetting as its the biggest fry that die. If it was me I'd remove the new spawn......

Thanks. The three week olds are very small, too small I believe to be able to fit eggs or newborn fry in their mouths. Hopefully, I can free up a tank soon.

Dilema
The majority of the eggs survived the night. Do I still perform daily water changes with both eggs and fry in the tank?

Fingers crossed for you, I would continue with the water programe you usualy use on parents with fry, its touch and go as to whether the parents will choose a batch to raise or raise both batches.

Thanks Lisa. The parents are practically ignoring both fry and eggs at the moment. Perhaps that will change tomorrow when the eggs become wrigglers.
