Hi everyone, I'm a relative newbie to the fish world & a complete newbie to angelfish, my partner has been keeping fish for many years including a pair of angels. We have a 350 litres tank with 3 mature oscars about as big as a ladies hand & 2 parrot fish, the same size, we also have a 150 litres tank with Malawi babies plus 4 other smaller tanks with various fish in plus a tank I've spent two weeks setting up which is a 60 litre tank, in this I have 8 small angels, they must be the more common angels around as I only paid £4 an angel for them. I realise they get big but my plan eventually is to mature them enough to go in with the oscars in the large tank or to use the 150 litre tank for the angels alone and create an angel community. The 150 litre tank is an upright tank where the other two angels have lived happily for a while, they were bought as koi angels although they now have another home.
I'd just like advice in the pitfalls of keeping small angels in a tank of 60 litres. Also in the tank is a plec small & 4 corys.

Sorry to be a nuisance but I'm working from an iPad, I've uploaded the pictures to photobucket but can't make them appear on the post. None of the 5 icons appear to chose when I reply to a post xx

Well done!
An interesting mix of youngsters there.
If those are real barnacles/shells I'd recommend removing them, Angels prefer soft acid to neutral conditions. Shellsare pure calcium and can push the kH & pH too high.

Thank you pterophyllum, I have testing strips I do test the water regularly so I'll watch out for that. They are the only thing in the tank that gives them a hiding place so if I do remove them I'll have to make a trip to the pet shop to buy some other coverage.
At the moment I have tropical food flake for them & I can crush some medium size cichlids pellets for them but I'd like to give them the best food for them. I know where I can get live bloodworm for a treat but any recommendations for food for them would be welcome. And how often & how much to feed them would be good to know from an expert twice. At the moment I'm feeding tropical food flake twice a day, a good finger pinch.
They are rather shy at the moment, any movement towards the tank & they hide, bless them. I know angelfish can be shy by nature.
Lastly any ideas from my photo how old they might be & what kind? They were all sold as angelfish.

There's a smokey, a marble, a silver, most look like they may have other genes hiding in the mix. Age wise I'd guess at a few months. Food wise, mine thrive on a diet of tetramin flakes. Little ones would certainly appreciate some newly hatched brine shrimp. Personally, I avoid live food, but frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp etc. Will be popular.

Hi, newbie here IMG_3416_zpsprxu1yez

Thank you, I wondered if I could ask about these stripey fellows. Before Xmas I saw angels like this advertised for £15 each as Altum angels, although my friend managed to buy them for £8 each as they were buying 6 but within ten days they died & the shop refused to do anything, water had been tested by my friend. So my guys came from the pet shop at £4 each, a pet shop I've had good results with with other fish.

I took your advice & although I haven't taken the barnacles out yet, I gave introduced more driftwood and I have plenty of testing strips so the the levels spike I can be on it & im at home all the time plus I haven't discounted removing the barnacles. Plus the little fellows are getting brave & coming out more & more.

Thank you for your help.

At £15 I doubt they were true altums. There are 3 recognised species of angel. Pterophyllum altum, P. leopoldi & P. scalare, all 3 have the same basic colour pattern of vertical black bands on a silver background. P. scalare are by far the most common, and all the unusual colour varieties are scalare. There is a fish sometimes called "Peru altum", this might be what your friend was sold. Although they look a bit like altums, they're actually a wild population of scalare, also know as Rio Nanays, after the river they come from. Hth

From my own reading I doubt they were true altums too. Thank you for your help, I'm loving my angels, despite having three other tanks I've always wanted to have an angel tank, it's very restful watching them & comical watching the corys.
