Hi Lisa,
They are very nice,
#4 is my favourite, nice body shape, good finnage and great colour....
....but I still don't know how to tell a red devil apart from a koi.

Thats easy, if it has been inported from somewhere special, called a Red Devil & has a nice deep red head (or bred from such Cool ), then it is a Red Devil cheers , easy lol!

Ok back to reality, who knows what extra makeup there is to make them different from any other Koi, all I know is they are a Strain of Koi that may carry something extra that makes them special, I will know more in a few generations I expect Smile

You need to add "..and with a big price tag!"; but unfortunately it's not that simple. I've seen koi, gold blushing and "Czech red" sold as red devils, then if you take a look at this link red devils, my german isn't good, but I'm pretty certain that "Das Original" implies that the owner of the site thinks that his are the original "red devil" and nice 'though those are, I'm sure the last time I looked at the site he had photos of fish that were obviously line bred from manacapuru stock and even more striking than the photos there now. Those look more like domestic angels than manacapuru, although the bottom left one does have a hint of manacapuru about him.

lol! , unless they are from me lol!

It is all a big mess, eg: Johns Blue Ghosts were given the name of Titanium Blue because they also carry other interesting characteristics inc the czeck (howerver you spell that Embarassed ) red blushing clowny strain, but now if you want a Titanium Blue it would be difficult to know if you are buying a Blue Ghost or an actual fish from the Titanium Blue strain.
So the warning is Caveat emptor, and buy from a breeder who knows his/her lines & strains!
Lisa

Lovely photos there.
I have a small red devil myself and find it hard to see much difference between my 2 small koi's, except the price of course. £3.99 koi's, £14.99 the red devil.

peachy

£11 for a name!....

...I still remain to be convinced that a Red Devil is anything other than a nice koi.
